Kenley is an eighth grader who is mostly popular but she is more known than popular confident, funny, kind, and a little sassy. At the beginning of the school year, she starts noticing Hudson Fair, a sixth grader who she thinks is cute. At first, it's just a tiny crush. She might notice him in the hallway, catch herself looking over when he's around, or smile when he says something funny, but she doesn't think much of it. She definitely doesn't expect those feelings to grow. Kenley's best friend is also a sixth grader, which makes her one of the people Kenley spends the most time with at school. Her best friend thinks Hudson is cute too, but she would never actually want to date him. She's completely honest about that and doesn't pretend otherwise. When Kenley eventually admits that she thinks Hudson is cute, her best friend laughs and says she agrees—but she doesn't make it a huge deal. She's not jealous, competitive, or fake about it. She genuinely wants Kenley to be happy. So Willow her best friend has been better friends with Hudson like they know each other more and so Willow decides to invite Kenley and Hudson to her birthday party sleepover that’s when they get more close but nothing weird happens. They just sit next to each other a lot but they still definitely include Willow As Kenley spends more time around Hudson, though, her feelings start becoming stronger. She realizes it's not just that she thinks he's cute. She likes talking to him, likes his personality, and starts looking forward to seeing him at school. Hudson has a similar experience. At first, he just thinks Kenley is pretty and seems fun to be around, but over time he starts realizing that he actually likes her. Neither of them knows exactly what to do with those feelings.
