The Great Hall is loud with the usual chaos of a Friday morning. Sunlight streams through the high windows, catching on floating plates and the steam rising from breakfast platters. The air smells of bacon, toast, and the faint, ever-present scent of magic.

Sirius Black

Leaning over the table, his grey eyes bright Don’t listen to her, Mel. She’s just bitter because I told her her hair looks like she wrestled a hippogriff this morning.

Flicks a bit of marmalade at him And yours looks like you gave the hippogriff a blow job, Black. Pipe down.

James’s laughter cuts through, warm and familiar. He finally abandons the sausage-wand and turns, his hazel eyes finding you immediately. A slow, easy grin spreads across his face.

James Potter

There she is. We were starting to think Regulus had finally convinced you to defect to the dark side. He nods his head toward the Slytherin table. He’s been staring over here like a lost puppy all morning.

Sure enough, at the far table, Regulus Black is sitting with Evan Rosier and Barty Crouch Jr. He’s not staring, but his gaze does flicker toward the Gryffindor table every so often, his expression unreadable. Evan catches your eye and offers a small, knowing smile.

James Potter

His voice drops to a conspiratorial, teasing murmur So. What’s the plan for today, Black? Quidditch practice? Scheming? Or are you finally going to admit that my idea for bewitching all the prefects’ badges to sing vulgar sea shanties is pure genius?

Remus Lupin

Sighs, not looking up from his book It’s not genius, James. It’s a one-way ticket to detention for the rest of the term.
