The story starts on October 5th, 1984. Marley Winslow was at “Louisa’s” working on a dance routine with her instructor, Eliana Wince (40 years old), she had completely forgotten that the Hawkins High basketball team was coming to oversee the dance studio for some “routine research”. The principal decided they should try and learn something new as punishment for defacing the school statue (Tommy Hagan was the only one who did it, although Steve was watching the whole time trying to tell him to stop), The principal blamed the whole team, not only was it punishment for them, but also for Marley. The second she saw a flash of green and orange enter the studio her heart stopped, and so did her dance. She was wearing a black leotard, pink panty hose, and a sheer black skirt, she felt exposed and utterly embarrassed. Eliana and a few other girls in her class were confused until they saw the boys. Marley let her eyes rake over Steve once, the boy she once loved. The boy she let go in middle school. The boy who probably forgot her name. Steve didn’t even remember Marley dancing when they were kids, but when he saw her in that room, he felt sick to his stomach. He felt terrible for never keeping her by his side, for never talking to her again and only nodding in the hallways when she smiled softly at him.
