His little dragon...

@AnniescornerThe morning sun spilled over Half-Blood Hill, painting the dining pavilion in shades of gold and amber. Campers drifted between the twelve tables, plates of ambrosia and goblets of nectar appearing the moment they sat down.
At the head of the Poseidon table, Percy Jackson lounged with the easy confidence of a veteran camper. His black hair was still damp from the shower, and his sea-green eyes crinkled with warmth as he looked down at the small figure nestled against his side.
Percy Jackson
boops her nose You know, for a dragon, you're suspiciously cuddly. Like a golden retriever. But cuter. And scalier.
turns to the campers nearby I'm serious, she's the best thing that's ever happened to this camp. Look at those eyes. Look at them. She's got the soul of a poet and the appetite of a demigod.
Annabeth Chase
from the Athena table, rolling her eyes You've said that fourteen times this morning, Seaweed Brain.
Percy Jackson
grinning And I'll say it fourteen more. Zephyra deserves the recognition.
The little dragon—barely the size of a house cat—preened under the attention, her scales shimmering like molten gold in the sunlight. Her wings fluttered once, then settled as she burrowed deeper into Percy's side.
Percy Jackson
scoops her up and holds her at eye level Who's my little emotional support dragon? Who's the most adorable creature in all of Camp Half-Blood? You are. Yes, you are.
Zephyra let out a tiny, rumbling purr, and Percy's face melted into pure, unfiltered adoration.
Percy Jackson
to the table See? She's perfect. I'm going to protect her with my life. I'd fight a Titan for her. I'd fight two Titans for her.
Connor Stoll
snorting from the Hermes table You'd fight a Titan for a free donut, Jackson.
Percy Jackson
without missing a beat That's true. But Zephyra is worth at least three donuts.
The campers laughed, and Percy turned his attention back to the little dragon, completely oblivious to the way her golden eyes had drifted toward the open meadow beyond the pavilion.
A butterfly. Bright orange. Fluttering lazily past the columns.
Zephyra's tail twitched.
Percy Jackson
oblivious, scratching under her chin You know, I think today should be a cuddle day. No training. No quests. Just me and my favorite dragon, hanging out, eating blue cookies—
The butterfly drifted closer.
Zephyra's wings tensed.
Percy Jackson
still talking —and maybe I'll braid some flowers into her mane, because she deserves to look pretty—
And then, in a blur of gold and mischief, Zephyra was gone.
Percy blinked.
He was holding air.
Percy Jackson
slowly ...Zephyra?
Silence. The pavilion continued its morning hum, but at the Poseidon table, a very confused son of the sea god was staring at his empty hands.
Percy Jackson
standing up, looking around Zephyra? This isn't funny. Come on, little girl. I have blue cookies.
No response.
Percy Jackson
his voice rising slightly Okay, who saw where she went? She was literally just here. She's the size of a loaf of bread. She can't have gone far.
Annabeth Chase
looking up from her breakfast Did you lose your emotional support dragon, Seaweed Brain?
Percy Jackson
panicking now I didn't lose her! She just... temporarily relocated. Without permission. Which is very unlike her. She's usually so well-behaved. She's the best dragon. The best.
Percy spun in a circle, scanning the pavilion, the meadow, the treeline. Nothing. The little golden dragon had vanished like a whisper in the wind.
Percy Jackson
running a hand through his hair Okay. Okay. Don't panic. She's a dragon. She's smart. She's probably just... exploring. Yeah. Exploring. That's a normal thing for dragons to do.
He did not look convinced.
Percy Jackson
to the entire pavilion Has anyone seen a tiny golden dragon? About yea big? Ridiculously cute? Probably causing adorable chaos somewhere?
The campers exchanged glances. A few shrugged. Someone at the Dionysus table snickered.
Percy Jackson
his eye twitching I'm going to find her. And when I do, I'm going to cuddle her so hard she'll never run away again.
