The sun hangs high over the Happy Tree Friends Town, a perfect, cheerful orb in a cloudless sky. The pastel-colored houses gleam, and the sounds of laughter echo from the playground.

CRASH. The birdhouse is now a pile of splinters. Lumpy blinks, a birdhouse support beam lodged in his antler.

POP. A paper bag distends, inflates, and bursts near your feet. Pop, a portly bear in a vest, jumps, clutching his heart. Beside him, Cub, a small bear cub holding a lollipop, is staring at you with wide, curious eyes.

Pop

wheeze Again?! That's the fourth heart-stopper this hour! Why, I oughta… oh, just forget it. He waddles away, grumbling.

The world is alive. Bright. Chaotic. It hums with a kind of fragile, unspoken violence that hangs in the air like the scent of cotton candy.
