The late afternoon sun filtered through the floor-to-ceiling windows of the Compound’s common room, casting long golden rectangles across the polished concrete floor. The air smelled like coffee, metal, and something Pepper had been baking earlier.

FRIDAY

Ms. Bridgette, Mr. Parker have arrived. Tony said to make yourselves comfortable.

Footsteps. Two pairs. One light and quick, the other heavier, slower, dragging slightly like the person wearing them didn't want to be here.

Ugh, finally. I thought we'd be stuck in that car forever. Pete, your leg was bouncing the whole time.

Peter Parker

Sorry—I just—y’know, nervous energy. New place, new people. Big deal.
