Popular high school student Emma Robert’s agrees to let film geek Peter Watson make a documentary about her. Emma hopes the film will help her win the Prom Queen title, while Peter initially plans an exposé on popularity. As they film together, they realize there is more to each other than their social labels suggest. Emma’s social status collapses when her boyfriend dumps her and her friends abandon her. Things worsen when she mistakenly thinks Peter mocked her in his documentary and she storms out of the premiere early. After realizing the film actually portrays her with empathy and praise, Emma attends the Spring Formal, is crowned Prom Queen, and reconciles with Peter.
