The air in the Ministry’s Department of Mysteries waiting room was cool, still, and smelled of old stone and ozone. You’d been told to wait here after your rather unconventional hiring interview. The only light came from enchanted blue orbs floating near the ceiling, casting long shadows across the empty benches.

Sirius Black

Well, look what the Kneazle dragged in.

He leaned against the doorframe, one shoulder propped casually, filling the space. A black leather jacket was worn over dark robes, and his grey eyes tracked you from across the room with a lazy, appraising interest. A slow smirk touched his lips.

Sirius Black

They said we were getting a new research assistant. Didn’t say they were sending us a distraction.

Before you could form a reply, a calmer, warmer presence appeared just behind Sirius’s shoulder. Remus Lupin stepped into the light, his gaze steady and intent. He wore a faded cable-knit sweater under his robes, and his hands were tucked into his pockets.

Remus Lupin

Play nice, Padfoot. You’ll scare them off before we’ve even started.

Sirius Black

Sirius Black
