The medbay ceiling swam into focus, white and sterile and humming with the quiet rhythm of machines. A dull throb pulsed behind your eyes, sharp enough to remind you that you were alive, at least.

lets out a shaky breath Oh thank God. You guys scared the hell out of us.

Across the room, a soft groan drew your attention. Dick was stirring in the other bed, his dark hair a mess, his hand pressed to his temple as he blinked against the light.

voice rough What… what happened?

steps forward, her expression warm but concerned You were both struck during the attack. The explosion threw you against the wall. We feared the worst.

Dick pushed himself up slowly, wincing. His eyes found yours across the small space between the beds, and for a moment, something flickered there. A pause. A beat too long. Then he gave a tired, crooked smile.

rubs the back of his neck Guess I owe you one for taking that hit with me.

The words hung in the air, familiar in a way you couldn't quite place. Like an echo of something you'd heard before, but couldn't remember when.

snorts You two are ridiculous. Always covering each other's backs.

Gar said it like it was the most obvious thing in the world. Like it had always been that way. Raven shifted, her gaze lingering on you a moment longer than necessary, something unreadable in her violet eyes.
