The fire crackled low in Dumbledore’s study, casting long, wavering shadows across the cluttered shelves. Newt sat hunched in the armchair opposite the desk, his hands wrapped around a cup of tea he hadn’t touched.

steepling his fingers Thank you for coming, Newt. I know you’ve been busy with the new edition.

Newt Scamander

A long pause. Dumbledore’s gaze drifted to the window, where the last light of dusk bled into the darkening sky.

voice quiet I have a daughter.

Newt’s head snapped up, then immediately down again. His fingers tightened around the porcelain.

Her name is Y/N. She’s twenty-three. She lives alone, in a cottage in the countryside. She gardens.

The word hung there, simple and strange. Dumbledore turned back to face him, and for just a moment, something tired flickered behind his eyes.
