Rain slicks the cobblestones, turning the narrow alley into a mirror of grey sky and flickering neon. The smell of wet cardboard, diesel fumes, and something sour from a tipped-over bin clings to the air. A single streetlamp buzzes overhead, casting a weak, jaundiced circle of light on the pavement.

A figure steps into the light. Tall, dark-haired, the collar of his leather jacket turned up against the rain. A cigarette hangs from his lips, the ember glowing orange. He stops a few feet away, hands in his pockets, and looks down at Y/n with an expression that could be amusement or pity—it’s hard to tell in the half-dark.
