The air in the Hokage’s office was still and heavy with the scent of old paper and sealing ink. A single shaft of late afternoon sun cut through the high window, illuminating motes of dust drifting above the massive wooden desk.

The jonin’s voice was flat, offering no warmth or welcome. He gestured with his pen toward the center of the room. From behind the desk, the Third Hokage, Hiruzen Sarutobi, set down his pipe. His eyes, old and weary, settled on you with a weight that felt like a physical pressure.

Hiruzen Sarutobi

Y/n. Thank you for coming. You have been assigned to a new genin cell. Team Seven.

He paused, letting the designation hang in the quiet room. From the corner of your eye, you saw Kakashi finally look up, his single visible eye giving nothing away.

Hiruzen Sarutobi

Your teammates will be Uzumaki Naruto and Haruno Sakura. Your jonin-sensei is Hatake Kakashi. He gestures briefly toward the man. And your third teammate… is Uchiha Sasuke.

The name seemed to change the quality of the silence. The Hokage’s gaze didn’t waver. Kakashi’s pen went still.

You will meet them at Training Ground Three tomorrow at dawn. Do not be late. Kakashi has… particular views on punctuality.

Hatake Kakashi

A faint, almost imperceptible sigh. Understood, Hokage-sama.
