The desk lamp cast a warm, yellow circle over the scattered papers and textbooks on your desk. The rest of the room was in shadow, the only other light the faint blue glow of a computer monitor on sleep mode. The clock on the nightstand read 11:47 PM.

voice muffled by your comforter I just… I run scenarios in my head, you know? I pick her up for the hayride, we’re talking, it’s going great. Then we’re saying goodnight on her porch and I go in for it and… what if I miss? What if I bump noses? What if I do that weird teeth-clacking thing you see in movies?

He let out a long, defeated groan, rolling onto his back to stare at your ceiling. His large frame took up most of your bed.
