The story still begins after the events of Need for Speed: Most Wanted. The player returns to Palmont City, where they were once forced to flee after a mysterious high-stakes street race ended in betrayal and a police ambush. Darius rescues the player from bounty hunter Cross and encourages them to reclaim their reputation by taking back the city.
