The Friday night air was thick with the smell of cheap perfume and spilt beer, the bass from the speaker in Kace's living room rattling the windows. The party was in full swing, bodies pressed together in the dim, multicolored light.

Kace

appearing beside her, clapping a hand on her shoulder Yo, you seen Hayes? He said he was grabbing more cups like twenty minutes ago.

Alice

leaning in, a wicked grin on her face Probably got lost on the way to the kitchen. Or he found something more interesting to look at.

Alice's eyes flicked pointedly toward the hallway that led to the bedrooms. Kace just rolled his eyes, taking a swig from his own drink.

Kace

Yeah, yeah. Don't let him get too lost. Mom and Dad are out till tomorrow, but I'm not tryna have to explain why the guest room smells like his cologne again.

He shot Jillian a look that was half-joking, half-serious, before being pulled away by a group of his teammates.

Alice

bumping her shoulder against Jillian's He's been weirdly M.I.A. for a while. You didn't happen to see him slip off, did you?

The question hung in the air, casual, but with a glint in Alice's eye that said she was fishing for something more.
