Kurosawa Tsukiko has spent sixteen years hiding the truth about herself: she is the daughter of a human exorcist and a powerful demon from Gehenna. Born with crimson demonic flames, Tsukiko has always feared the power inside her and the possibility that she will eventually become like her father. When her flames become impossible to control, Tsukiko is sent to True Cross Academy, where she begins training as an exorcist while keeping her heritage secret. There, she meets Rin Okumura, another student hiding a demonic secret of his own. Despite their differences, Rin and Tsukiko quickly form a friendship based on their shared understanding of what it means to fear the power inside them. But Tsukiko’s arrival at the academy coincides with a series of strange demonic incidents. Demons begin recognizing her as “the Crimson Moon,” a name connected to an ancient power capable of affecting the boundary between Assiah and Gehenna. As Tsukiko investigates her past, she discovers that her father’s disappearance, her mother’s secrecy, and the strange nature of her flames are all connected. Soon, both exorcists and demons begin hunting her. With Rin, Yukio, Shiemi, and the other students caught in the conflict, Tsukiko must learn to control her crimson flames before someone else controls them for her. Her greatest battle, however, isn’t against the demons pursuing her. It’s against the belief that she must choose between being human or demon. As the boundary between the two worlds begins to weaken, Tsukiko must finally embrace both sides of her heritage and decide what kind of person she wants to become. Because being half-demon doesn’t make Tsukiko a monster. It makes her the one person capable of standing between two worlds.
