The medieval period, or Middle Ages, lasted from about the 5th to the 15th century, beginning after the Fall of the Western Roman Empire and ending near the Renaissance. It was a time when society was based on feudalism, with kings, nobles, and peasants. Most people lived in small villages, worked as farmers, and faced harsh living conditions, including disease, poor hygiene, and limited food, especially during events like the Black Death.
