What happens when Jungkook falls for his best friend?

@jazzmineeThe Los Angeles skyline sprawls beneath me, a glittering maze of lights that stretches all the way to the horizon. The rooftop terrace is still mostly empty—string lights draped across the railing, a long table set with catering trays, and a bar stocked with enough alcohol to fuel a small army. Camille's been fussing with the playlist for the last ten minutes, her blonde hair whipping in the warm evening breeze.

Okay, but what if they're too tired for a party? Like, what if they just want to go back to the hotel and sleep?
She's biting her lip, scrolling through her phone. I can tell she's nervous even though she'd never admit it. I've known her long enough to read between the lines.
I've been planning this for two months. Coordinating with their manager, flying in a day early, booking this entire rooftop. There's no way I'm letting them go straight to sleep.
Camille Laines
glancing at me with a knowing smirk You really went all out for them, huh? Especially for a certain someone. I saw the way you triple-checked the catering order to make sure there were enough of those honey butter chips he likes.
The elevator at the far end of the rooftop dings. Camille's eyes go wide, and she grabs my arm, her nails digging in just slightly.

They're here. Oh my god, they're actually here.
The doors slide open, and I hear Jin's voice first—loud, dramatic, complaining about something Namjoon did on the flight. Then Hoseok's laughter follows, bright and infectious. They're all bundled together, still in their airport clothes, looking exhausted but happy.
And then I see him.
Jungkook's at the back of the group, hood pulled up, head down, scrolling through his phone. He looks tired—dark circles under his eyes, his shoulders slumped. But then Jimin nudges him, says something I can't hear, and Jungkook looks up.
Our eyes meet across the rooftop.
Jungkook
freezing mid-step, his phone lowering slowly No fucking way.
Taehyung
grinning, already breaking into a run Y/N!
Taehyung reaches me first, pulling me into a crushing hug that lifts me off my feet. He smells like airport air and expensive cologne, and he's laughing right against my ear.
Taehyung
I can't believe you're here. I can't believe you're actually here.
Jimin
rushing over, his face splitting into that heart-shaped smile She planned all this? For us? pulling me into a hug that's gentler but just as warm
Hoseok
jogging over, arms wide Our Y/N! Look at you! You look amazing!
The others pile in—Namjoon pats my head like I'm a little sister, Jin pinches my cheek and tells me I've gotten prettier, Yoongi just gives me a soft smile and a nod before slipping past me toward the bar. The compliments wash over me in a blur of familiar voices.
And then Jungkook's there.
He's stopped a few feet away, his hands shoved in his hoodie pocket, just... looking at me. The others have scattered—Taehyung's already grabbing drinks, Jimin's showing Camille something on his phone, Jin's inspecting the food. It's just us in this little bubble of space.
Jungkook
his voice a little rough You did all this?
He glances around the rooftop—at the string lights, the decorations, the way I clearly thought about every detail. When his eyes come back to me, there's something soft in them that makes my stomach flip.
Jungkook
stepping closer, a slow smile spreading You're insane, you know that? Flying all the way out here—
He stops in front of me, and before I can say anything, he pulls me into a hug. His arms wrap around my waist, and for a second—just a second—he squeezes tight, tucking his face into my hair. I can feel the warmth of him, the solidness of his body, the way he breathes out like he's been holding it.
Jungkook
murmuring, low enough that only I can hear Missed you.
He pulls back before I can process the way his voice sounded—rough, genuine, with an edge to it that I don't quite recognize. He's grinning again, the playful Jungkook I know so well.
Jungkook
Also, I'm starving. You better have gotten the good snacks.
Camille Laines
calling out from across the rooftop Jungkook! There's a whole table of honey butter chips with your name on it!
He laughs, pulling his hood down and running a hand through his messy hair. For a moment, he's just my Jungkook—the boy I've known for four years, the one who sends me random texts at 3 AM and call me just to complain about his gaming teammates.
And then Taehyung's behind him, throwing an arm around his shoulder, looking between us with an expression that's a little too knowing.
Taehyung
grinning Boba, you should try the drinks. Y/N got your favorite beer. a pointed pause She remembered everything, huh?
Jungkook
rolling his eyes, but I catch the slight pink on his ears Shut up, Tae.
