The sun hung low over the Foster house, painting the driveway in shades of amber and gold. A basketball thumped rhythmically against the driveway pavement, echoing through the warm afternoon air.

I'm just saying, if you're gonna pick me up from school tomorrow, you could at least pretend to be excited about it.

Jesus Foster

grinning, catching the ball I'm always excited to see your face, Mari. Just not at seven in the morning.

He shot the ball, and it swished through the net with a satisfying snap. He caught it on the rebound, spinning it in his hands.

rolling her eyes, but smiling Whatever. You know Y/n's coming over tonight, right? She said she wanted to study for the history test.

Jesus Foster

He laughed it off, too quickly, and tucked the ball under his arm. From inside the house, the sound of Stef's voice drifted out, calling them in for dinner.
