The throne room of Benwick was quieter than it used to be. Once, it had echoed with the laughter of a small boy chasing a fox through the great hall, his scarlet eyes bright with mischief. Now, the banners hung still. The fire crackled. And Y/n sat alone by the window, staring out at the valley where Lancelot used to train.

His voice was low. Not accusing. Just... observing.

Watching that spot. Like if you stare long enough, he’ll just show up.

He let the silence stretch, then reached over and took her hand. His grip was steady, familiar. The same hand that had held hers through a hundred battles and a thousand quiet nights.

I met with the scouts. They came back empty-handed again. He paused, jaw tightening But I got something else.

He didn’t say it lightly. There was a weight to his words, a tension in his shoulders that hadn’t been there before. He was holding something back, trying to soften the blow, and Ban was never good at that.
