The Burrow was bursting at the seams with warmth and laughter. Fairy lights twinkled overhead, casting a golden glow over the mismatched chairs and tables that had been crammed into the garden. A banner strung between two apple trees read HAPPY 19TH, HERMIONE in crooked, hand-painted letters.

Ginny Weasley

grinning Come on then, just one more. The long, thin one from Professor Lupin.

The table quieted. Harry leaned forward, his glasses catching the light. Ron, mid-reach for a third pasty, paused.

Harry Potter

He sent a gift? I thought he was still in Scotland.

Ron Weasley

shrugging, mouth half-full Maybe it owled itself.

Hermione Granger

smiling softly He said he'd try to make it, but—well. Open it for me?

She slid the parcel—wrapped in brown paper and tied with simple twine—across the table toward the pile. A small card was tucked under the string, just visible.

Ginny Weasley

Go on, Mione. It's your birthday.

Hermione's fingers hesitated over the knot.
