The story begins with a doting Narcissa Malfoy pressuring her eternal-bachelor son, Draco, to settle down. At his mother's lavish masquerade ball, Draco is utterly captivated by a mysterious woman dressed entirely in silver. They share an electric dance and a kiss at midnight, but she vanishes as quickly as she appeared, leaving behind only a single silver glove and the memory of her lips. In reality, this "Lady in Silver" is Y/N, a lowly lady's maid working for the formidable witch Lady Isabelle Montague.
