• Dr. Dyson Ido (Christoph Waltz) finds a disembodied female cyborg head with a living human brain in a massive scrapyard beneath the affluent sky-city of Zalem. • Ido rebuilds her with a new mechanical body and names her Alita (Rosa Salazar). • Alita wakes up with total amnesia, having no memory of who she is or her past. Iron City and Hugo • Alita explores Iron City and befriends a human youth named Hugo (Keean Johnson), who dreams of ascending to the utopian sky-city of Zalem. • She discovers that Ido secretly works as a Hunter-Warrior (bounty hunter). • When attacked by lethal cyborg assassins, Alita instinctively unleashes Panzer Kunst, an ancient and lethal Martian martial art, proving she was once an elite warrior. Conflict and Nova • Alita's combat prowess draws the attention of Vector (Mahershala Ali) and Nova, a mysterious, unseen scientist from Zalem who operates through cyborg minds in Iron City. • Nova targets Alita for destruction, sending massive cyborgs like Grewishka (Jackie Earle Haley) to kill her. • After Grewishka mangles her initial frame, Ido places Alita into an advanced Berserker cyborg body, which fully synchronizes with her combat software. • Alita also enters the high-speed gladiatorial sport of Motorball, aiming to win the prize money and secure Hugo’s passage to Zalem. Climax and Conclusion • Hugo is framed for crimes by Vector and mortally wounded while trying to illegally scale the pipeline to Zalem. • Ido saves Hugo by transferring his head to a cyborg chassis, but a defense ring dropped from Zalem ultimately kills Hugo right in front of Alita. • Heartbroken and driven by revenge, Alita becomes a star athlete in the Motorball arena, raising her sword toward Zalem as she vows to take down Nova
