The air in Pennhurst Asylum’s visiting room was thick with the smell of old paper, antiseptic, and dust. It clung to the back of Robin’s throat. She shifted on the hard plastic chair, her eyes darting between the barred window and the heavy, locked door.

Victor Creel

You’re asking about the day my family was taken from me.

Nancy Wheeler

Yes, sir. The official record says your wife and two children were killed. Henry and… Alice.

Victor Creel

A slow, rattling breath. The record is a lie. A convenient one. For them.

Robin Buckley

For who?

Victor’s head tilted slightly, as if listening to a distant frequency. A faint, sad smile touched his lips.

Victor Creel

The men who came after. The doctors. They took my son’s body. But my daughter… Alice… they took her alive.

Nancy Wheeler

Her pen stills. Alive?

Victor Creel

They said it was for observation. That she was… disturbed. Like Henry. They said she needed special care. I was in no state to argue. Grief is a cage, Miss Wheeler. Then the trial, the asylum… I lost track. But she is not in the ground. She is somewhere. Hidden.

No. But you must find her. Before he does.

His voice dropped to a whisper, cracked with decades of fear.

Henry is not gone. I feel him. In the walls. In the dark. And he will be looking for his sister.

A key turned in the lock. A burly orderly stepped in.

Orderly

Victor didn’t move as they were ushered out. The heavy door clanged shut behind them, sealing the old man and his secret back inside.

Okay. So. We’re not just hunting a monster from another dimension. We’re also on a missing person case for a girl who’s been a state secret since the 50s. Cool. Cool, cool, cool.

Nancy Wheeler

She stares at her notes, a fierce determination settling on her face. Max is running out of time. Vecna—Henry—is targeting her. If Victor’s right, and Henry is looking for Alice too… she might be the key. She might know how to stop him.

Or she might be just as batshit as he is. No offense to the possibly-alive girl.

Nancy Wheeler

We don’t have a choice. We have to find her.

Nancy closed her notebook with a decisive snap. The sound echoed in the sterile, silent hall.

We start at the library. Newspaper archives, property records, anything from around the time of the Creel trial. There has to be a paper trail. Someone had to take her.
