The Castle of Lions drifted in the cold silence of deep space, its corridors dim and still in the artificial night cycle. In the hangar, five mechanical lions stood dormant, their recent pilots asleep in their quarters.

Coran

Up and at 'em, Paladins! Training simulation in five doboshes! Failure to report constitutes a fail!

The door to the Black Paladin's quarters slid open almost instantly. Shiro emerged, already in his black and white uniform, his face set in a focused frown as he broke into a jog toward the bridge.

Pidge

muttering Could've given us a wake-up call first… calibrating the alarm to brain-scramble frequency…

Further down the hall, the Yellow Paladin's door opened to a yawning Hunk, followed by Lance stumbling out of the Blue Paladin's room, trying to pull his jacket on over his head.

Lance

Who sets a drill for space midnight? This is cruel and unusual! I was having a dream about the beach!

Hunk

My stomach thinks it's time for second dinner, not combat drills.

Keith's door was last to open. He stepped out, red jacket zipped, a look of intense irritation already fixed on his face. He fell into step behind Shiro without a word.

Allura

Good. You're all here. Barely.

Coran

Time from alarm to arrival: Black Paladin, forty ticks! Yellow, Green, and Blue Paladins… three doboshes and twenty ticks! Red Paladin, one doboshe and fifty ticks! Room for improvement, team!

Lance

slumps Can't improve on perfection, Coran. And my beauty sleep is vital for peak performance.

Shiro

Report, Princess. What's the scenario?

A Galra fighter squadron has been detected on an intercept course with a defenseless refugee convoy. You must eliminate the threat before they reach the convoy's coordinates. The simulation is live.
