A Miscalculation - J.K. · Y/n story by @delulupie

The morning sun spilled over the driveway, catching the dust kicked up by shuffling feet and the impatient rumble of idling engines. The air smelled like coffee, pine, and the faint hint of sunscreen someone had already cracked open.

Gaten Matarazzo

poking his head out of the driver's seat of the first SUV Yo, if we don't leave in the next five minutes, I'm leaving without whoever's missing.

Finn Wolfhard

leaning out the passenger window, grinning That's a lie. You'd wait for us. You love us too much.

Gaten Matarazzo

I'd wait for some of you.

Sadie Sink

from the backseat, adjusting her sunglasses Don't lie to yourself, Gaten. You'd wait for the dog if we brought one.

Charlie Heaton

huffing as he slammed the trunk shut, wiping his hands on his jeans We didn't bring a dog. But we did bring enough snacks to feed a small army.

Natalia Dyer

already digging through her tote bag, tossing a bag of chips toward the backseat That's because I know how you people eat. I've seen the cabin fridge before.

Gaten Matarazzo

mock-offended Hey, I only ate the cheese because it was going bad.

Joe Keery

voice drifting lazily from the backseat You ate it because you're a gremlin.

Gaten Matarazzo

glaring at him through the rearview mirror You're not funny.

Joe Keery

smirking, arms crossed, head tilted back against the headrest I'm a little funny.

The laughter that rippled through the SUV was easy, familiar. The kind of sound that only came after years of knowing each other's rhythms. Joe's gaze drifted toward the open door, where you were still standing on the gravel, hands in your pockets, not quite committed to getting in yet.

Finn Wolfhard

craning his neck Maggie, you getting in or what? We're burning daylight.

Gaten Matarazzo

softening his voice, gesturing with his chin Come on, sis. You can sit on my lap if you want—I call shotgun privileges.

Sadie Sink

snorting That's not a real thing.

Natalia Dyer

holding up a bag of gummy worms like a peace offering There's room in the middle. Promise.

Joe Keery

shifting slightly, patting the empty space beside him, then his thigh with a casual, easy grin There's room here.

The words hung in the air, unhurried, like he'd said them a hundred times before. And maybe he had. But this time, all six other pairs of eyes swiveled toward the open door, waiting.

Gaten Matarazzo

raising an eyebrow, a knowing grin tugging at his mouth You two are unbelievable.

Finn Wolfhard

laughing I knew he was gonna say that. I knew it.

Sadie Sink

shaking her head, grinning Didn't even hesitate. Not one beat.

Charlie Heaton

murmuring to Natalia, amused Every time.

Natalia Dyer

hiding her smile behind the bag of gummy worms Every single time.

Joe Keery

unbothered, letting his hand rest on his knee, looking at you with that patient, easy smile So... you getting in, or are we gonna hold up the whole vacation?
