A Cover Too Convincing || Anakin Skywalker · Y/n story by @catscrowntoxic

The Jedi Temple hummed with its usual quiet rhythm—the soft murmur of younglings in the halls, the distant clatter of a training saber, the ever-present whisper of the Force threading through stone and life alike.

Obi-Wan Kenobi

steeples his fingers, a faint smile tugging at his lips Ah, good. You're both here.

Anakin Skywalker

already looking slightly annoyed, arms crossed You said this was urgent, Master. I was in the middle of a diagnostic on my starfighter.

Obi-Wan Kenobi

And I'm sure the 501st will survive another hour without you fussing over every bolt.

Yoda's ears twitched. He exchanged a glance with Mace Windu before speaking.

Yoda

A mission, we have. Most delicate. Most... unusual.

Anakin Skywalker

raises an eyebrow Unusual how?

Mace Windu

his voice flat, serious There have been reports of Separatist activity on the neutral world of Serenno's moon—specifically, within the influential House Aldrete. They host frequent political gatherings, and their connections run deep in banking and shipping.

Obi-Wan Kenobi

The problem is that the Aldretes are notoriously suspicious of Jedi. If we send anyone in openly, they'll clam up faster than a Hutt at a tax audit.

A pause. The kind of pause that made Anakin's instincts prickle.

Anakin Skywalker

...So you're not sending us in as Jedi.

Yoda

his eyes glinting Correct, young Skywalker. Send you in as something else, we will.

Mace Windu

A married couple. Recently relocated. Looking to establish yourselves in Serenno's social circles.

Silence.

Anakin Skywalker

I'm sorry—a short laugh—did you just say married?

Obi-Wan Kenobi

the smile widening To each other, yes.

The temperature in the room seemed to drop several degrees as both Jedi turned to look at each other. Anakin's expression was a mixture of disbelief and barely concealed horror. Y/n's face, as always, remained carefully neutral—but something flickered in their eyes.

Anakin Skywalker

slowly, as if testing the words You want me—gestures at himself—and them—jerks a thumb toward Y/n—to pretend to be married.

Obi-Wan Kenobi

The Council believes you're the best suited for this assignment. Your... pauses chemistry will make the cover more convincing.

Anakin Skywalker

Chemistry? We have chemistry?

Yoda

Argue like an old married couple, you already do.

Mace Windu's mouth twitched—almost imperceptibly, but it was there.

Anakin Skywalker

turns to Y/n, voice low and incredulous Are you hearing this?
