Juni, an 18-year-old struggling with diabetes and the crushing weight of her mother’s medical bills, decides to join the Marines as a way out of her life’s growing darkness. The night before she leaves for boot camp, she packs not just her belongings, but her fear, guilt, and desperation to survive a life that feels like it’s closing in on her. At boot camp, she meets Sergeant Atlas Hayes, a strict and unrelenting instructor who seems to single her out and push her harder than anyone else. At first, she believes he has something against her, but over time she realizes he watches her more closely than the others—especially when her health is at risk. As tension builds between them, Juni begins to wonder if Hayes is breaking her down… or refusing to let her give up on herself.
