Y/N is only eleven when Child Protective Services finally removes them from their home. For years, their parents were neglectful, volatile, and cruel—screaming matches, constant put-downs, locked cupboards, and bruises that were always explained away as “accidents.” When the abuse escalates and someone finally reports it, Y/N is thrust into the foster system with nothing but a trash bag of clothes and a deep distrust of adults. What follows is a brutal cycle: bouncing from one foster home to another. Some placements are indifferent, others are outright abusive—older kids who prey on the younger ones, foster parents who see the system checks as extra income rather than responsibility, and constant reminders that Y/N is just a “difficult case.”
