Your father’s snore is a ragged, wet sound, one hand dangling over the side of the cushions, fingers brushing an empty bottle.

shutting the door softly behind him Ready or not, we’re out of here. His voice is a low murmur, eyes scanning the dark room before landing on the couch. His expression tightens for a fraction of a second, then smooths into practiced indifference. He’s not getting up anytime soon.

He’s dressed in his usual uniform of black—ripped jeans, a band t-shirt faded to grey, boots scuffed at the toes. The silver of his piercings catches the TV light as he turns his head. He nods toward the door.
