He follows traces, searches for creatures, fills his notebooks, and moves on once the work is finished. It’s easier that way. His latest pursuit brings him into a crowded city, where he’s far more focused on a creature’s trail than on the people around him. Until he accidentally collides with you. It should be an insignificant encounter. An apology, a few awkward words, and then you both go your separate ways. Except the moment Newt looks up at you, something in his mind seems to simply
stop. For perhaps the first time in a very long while, he finds himself struggling to remember what he was doing. He tries to dismiss it afterward. Perhaps he was simply tired. Perhaps the crowded street had made him lose his train of thought. But he keeps remembering your face, your voice, and the brief moment when you looked at him. And when his work gives him reason to pass through the same part of the city again, he finds himself wondering whether he might happen to see you. What began as a chance collision slowly becomes something Newt can’t quite explain. He still has a creature to find and a journey to finish, but for once, “just passing through” doesn’t seem quite as simple as it used to. ⊹───────⟢───────⊹
