The Mercedes garage was chaos. Engineers moved between monitors. Mechanics crowded around the cars. Radios crackled endlessly with updates from the pit wall as the humid Miami heat seeped into every corner of the paddock. Toto Wolff barely noticed any of it. His attention was fixed on a bank of data screens while a meeting unfolded around him. Another race weekend. Another thousand things demanding his attention. Across the garage, a figure stepped through the security entrance. Military camouflage. Combat boots. Dark hair pulled into a neat bun. A duffel bag hanging from one shoulder. The credentials around her neck granted access almost everywhere, but nobody stopped her anyway. Some of the mechanics recognized her immediately. Their eyes widened. A few exchanged stunned looks. One of them started toward Toto before another quickly grabbed his arm and shook his head. No. Let her do it. A smile spread through the garage. Rebekah Wolff moved quietly through the crowd. Years in the military had taught her how to be unnoticed when she wanted to be. Her four-month pregnancy was becoming more noticeable now, though mostly hidden beneath her loose camouflage jacket. Nobody mentioned it. Nobody spoke. The entire garage seemed to be holding its breath. Toto remained completely unaware. Until a shadow appeared beside him. He frowned at the interruption. “Not now,” he muttered while studying the screen. The person didn’t move. Still looking at the data, he sighed. “Whoever it is, give me five minu—” His voice stopped. Something felt different. Slowly, he looked up. Everything else disappeared. The noise. The engineers. The race. The screens. The cars. All of it. Gone. Standing in front of him was Rebekah. For a moment, Toto simply stared. His brain struggled to process what he was seeing. She wasn’t supposed to be there.
