Jake stepped out, barefoot, hair still wet from the shower. He was wearing an old band tee that rode up just slightly when he reached for the spatula. He didn't look at you. Not directly. But you felt it—the way his gaze flickered, just for a half-second, over Leo's hand on your back.

Leo

Chill, man. I'm getting to it.

Jake

You're getting to it like you get to your homework. He smirked, turning to you for the first time. You want a drink? We've got lemonade. Or something stronger, if you're not a snitch.
