Lucía Navarro's life begins to change after an innocent sightseeing trip to Alchemax brings her face-to-face with Miguel O'Hara. She knows almost nothing about him beyond what her friends later enthusiastically explain: he is brilliant, famous, intimidating and, apparently, extremely attractive. Miguel, meanwhile, barely remembers the encounter. Their paths cross again through Lucía's work at a community health center that maintains a partnership with Alchemax. The second encounter is equally mundane. Miguel is there because his responsibilities require it, not because he has any interest in seeing her. This becomes the pattern of their early relationship. They encounter one another occasionally—in hallways, offices, community projects and other ordinary circumstances. Miguel remains distant and focused, often distracted by matters involving the Spider-Society that Lucía doesn't even know exist. He rarely attempts to prolong their conversations and frequently leaves before Lucía can decide what she wanted to say. Lucía, meanwhile, slowly becomes fascinated by him. At first, it is mostly attraction and curiosity. She is painfully aware of how handsome he is and hopelessly inexperienced when it comes to interpreting his occasional kindness. Her friends tease her relentlessly, while simultaneously warning her not to mistake simple politeness for romantic interest. But something more meaningful gradually develops. Miguel begins recognizing Lucía as a familiar presence—not necessarily someone he seeks out, but someone whose presence occasionally provides a strange sense of normalcy. She doesn't know about the Spider-Society. She doesn't demand explanations. She doesn't idolize him. When she sees an exhausted Miguel, she sees an exhausted man rather than Spider-Man 2099. Their relationship slowly progresses from strangers, to familiar acquaintances, to an unconventional friendship. Eventually, Miguel finds himself spending small amounts of time with her.
