You hate Mattheo Riddle. He hates you too. So when the two of you are sentenced to an hour of detention together in an abandoned part of Hogwarts, the plan is simple: ignore each other, finish the punishment, and leave. Then you find a corridor that isn’t supposed to exist. At the end of it sits a black handbell with no clapper. It rings anyway. That night, someone is standing at the end of the Gryffindor corridor. Too tall. Too thin. Completely still. The next night, the bell rings again. And whatever answered it is closer. Mattheo laughs when you tell him something followed you out of that hidden wing. His friends laugh too. Then he sees it standing behind you. Now the Slytherin who couldn’t stand you keeps appearing outside your classes, checking dark corridors before you enter them, walking you back to Gryffindor Tower, and getting increasingly furious whenever the thing gets close enough to hurt you. There is no spell making him stay. Which becomes a problem when you start wondering why he still does.
