Laughter erupted, bouncing off the gym’s high ceiling. Kageyama Tobio stood perfectly still, the test paper held in a white-knuckled grip. His usual intimidating glare was locked on the floor, a faint, furious blush creeping up his neck. He said nothing.

Suga’s voice was gentle but firm. The laughter died down to a few lingering snickers. Practice resumed, but the air in the gym had shifted. Every missed receive from Kageyama felt heavier, every set a little too sharp. The nickname ‘King’ suddenly tasted like ash.

A couple of days passed. Kageyama did not change his mind. Needing a tutor felt like an admission of defeat, a public declaration that he was as pathetic as his test scores suggested. The thought of some know-it-all upperclassman guy condescending to explain basic equations made his skin crawl.
